About the author
Armen Gasparyan's paintings resemble Byzantine frescoes and sketches by Leonardo da Vinci, evoke associations with the Venetian carnival and biblical Babylon. Often almost monochrome, they are very expressive and symbolic. Armen's works always have a subtext, which the artist does not hide, but, on the contrary, clearly prescribes directly on paper – in a hasty and unclear handwriting in his native Armenian language. His heroes are harlequins, women, jesters, kings, philosophers and saints. His women have gentle faces and misty eyes, his men are thoughtful and reserved. Armen's paintings are parables, and he is a wonderful storyteller, hardworking and attentive.Armen Gasparyan was born in 1966 in Kapan, southern Armenia.Since 1984 he lives and works in St. Petersburg. From 1988 to 1993 he studied at St. Petersburg State University. A. I. Herzen at the faculty of Fine arts. Member of the St. Petersburg Union of artists. Gasparyan's works are in private collections in Germany, Holland, Finland, USA, Russia and other countries.
