About the artist
Boris Makarov (b. 1991) is a multidisciplinary artist working with ceramics, photography, and graphic media. Ceramics serves as the central medium in his practice, uniting the study of organic forms and natural processes with their reinterpretation through a sensual, intuitive methodology. Drawing inspiration from the textures of minerals, tree bark, plants, and stone, he translates embodied emotional experiences into tangible objects imbued with a sense of artifact—existing at the intersection of reality and its associative image. Employing empirical approaches to modeling, the artist favors an intuitive, co-creative dialogue with the material. He has completed several educational programs in contemporary art and photography: Igor Mukhin’s workshop at Rodchenko Moscow School of Photography and Multimedia (2018–2019); Polezreniya Photography School (2017–2018); the School of Contemporary Art “Free Workshops” (2022–2023); the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA), Moscow, under the “New Artistic Strategies” program by Joseph Backstein (2021–2022); and the online school “More Than a Project” in the “Artistic Research” track (2025). Since 2020, he has participated in solo and group exhibitions, art fairs, residencies, and collaborations with local brands across Moscow, St. Petersburg, and other Russian regions. He lives and works in Moscow.Education
