Art critic's comment

The graphic quality of Alla Lipatova's paintings combines with the subtle game of colours. The artist works in the traditional technique of oil painting, combining it with a complex gilding technique, which has been used in Russian icon painting over the centuries. The use of these techniques gives Lipatova’s paintings an air of refined decorativeness and noble sophistication. The author's style and the sense of colour were formed largely during archaeological research trips to study ancient cultures in Armenia, Khakassia and Adygea.

Alla Lipatova’s paintings would never overwhelm viewers with complex symbols and philosophical concepts. On the contrary, her artworks realise our dream of beauty and convey the elusive magnificance of the universe, through detailed appreciation of architecture, music, historical costumes and still-lives. The architectural motifs in Lipatova’s paintings remind us about the infinity of the universe, whereas the motif of the clock is associated with the transience of time and the fragility of life.
