The exhibition presents select early paintings of the artist Sergei Laushkin. The interest in the early pieces created between 2000 and 2017 is not accidental. These artworks indeed deserve special attention. For several years now, they have remained underestimated, because from 2015 and to this day Sergei Laushkin has completely changed his style in terms of creative search towards the so-called motif of ‘the stepped rhythms,’ which currently dominates in his painting. At present, the artist is mainly known as the author of ‘The Stepped Rhythms,’ the large-scale series of sculptures and paintings. According to the philosophical concept of the artist, the rhythm of the steps corresponds to the natural rhythm of human personal development and movement in general. At the exhibition ‘Among the Waves’ viewers have the perfect opportunity to trace the creative development of Sergei Laushkin’s artistic language from the laconicism of smooth lines to the fragmented stepped forms and to understand the origins of this artistic concept. The exhibition includes early paintings of Sergei Laushkin, some of which have not been on display for several years, or have never been presented to the public at all. The selection of artworks at the exhibition characterises Sergei Laushkin as a versatile master, who enjoys experimenting with composition, form, plasticity and combinations of colours. Working in the traditional genres of landscape and still life, the artist remains an innovator in terms of presenting the themes and composition in his paintings. The artist's works are found in collections of Russian and foreign museums and galleries, as well as in private collections all over the world, including Russia, the UK, The Netherlands, Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, Japan, the USA and the art collection of Her Majesty the Queen of Jordan.
