The Artist Alexey Chernigin

About the artist
Born in 1975 in Nizhny Novgorod (formerly Gorky), in the family of the famous Soviet artist Alexander Chernigin.

Graduated from the Gorky Art School and the State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering. Member of the Union of Artists of Russia.

Since 2001, the artist works as a lecturer and engages in research. His exhibitions are regularly held both in Russia and abroad. The artist creates still lifes, cityscapes, portraits. His pieces are found in private collections and art galleries around the world. Alexey Chernigin lives and works in the city of Nizhny Novgorod.

Art critic's comment

The artist’s paintings are dedicated to diverse subjects – from significant historical and religious events to simple genre scenes featuring our contemporaries. The artist presents viewers his ideas through the emotional experiences of the characters of his paintings, and each of these personages is endowed with individuality. The artist empathises with his characters, acting as an expert on human souls.

In his paintings, the artist aims to discard the clichés and draws the viewers’ attention to important cultural and philosophical issues, which are meant to unite people, but often contribute to the opposite.

A series of paintings dedicated to female images levels out the impact of the dramatic events of our time. Gentle and romantic, these pieces invite viewers on a summer trip to the countryside or take them for a stroll in the rain along the streets of Saint-Petersburg, and then invite you to enjoy the grace and elegance of ballet...
